This is a group of belsnickles from Pendleton County. An old German custom, just a few still practice it today. It consists of going house to house in masquerade at Christmastime.     (FL1095E)

The Shanghai Parade takes place in Lewisburg, West Virginia every New Year’s Day. Locally, no one knows the origin or meaning of the custom, but it appears to have a history within the mid-winter rituals of Germanic people in Europe.      (FL198L)

This is a "shanghaier" walking in the New Year’s Parade at Lewisburg.       (FL198N)
