Eric and Leigh Gibson
were born less than a year apart and grew up on a dairy farm in Ellenburg Depot,
on the Canadian border in the rugged North Country of New York State. In their
early teens, they began playing guitar and banjo and singing at local functions.
In their twenties, they discovered that their sibling harmony style was
reminiscent of the classic Louvin Brothers sound. Under the tutelage of renowned
resophonic guitarist Junior Barber, they formed a band in the early nineties
with Junior's son, Mike Barber, on upright bass. Their debut album was
self-produced in 1994. Six more acclaimed CDs followed on the Hay Holler and
Sugar Hill labels. In 1998, they were named the IBMA Emerging Artists of the
Year. Ten years of touring and recording rewarded them in 2003 with an
invitation to debut on the Grand Ole Opry. Their last three CDs have each
produced number-one hits on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Survey and their
latest CD, “Red Letter Day” was selected as Album Of The Year in 2006 by
Bluegrass Now magazine.
