John Cephas

John Cephas learned the alternating thumb-and-finger Piedmont picking style from his cousin, David Taleofero. Cephas emulates such early blues artists as Blind Boy Fuller, Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Tampa Red. He formed a duo with Phil Wiggins in 1977, and received the National Heritage Fellowship in 1989.
