2010 Augusta Mini-course Description

Week 2
Blues Week
Swinging to the Blues
mini-course
Mike (the Girl) Legett and Dan Rosenthal

If you've gotten this far, you know what blues music is. But what, exactly, is blues dancing? On the surface, it's just what it sounds like- dancing done to blues music. At its heart, what we'll be doing is a partnered, lead-follow dance with vast possibilities, and a basic so simple you do it every day- a step. So what about swing dancing? Swing dancing grew up alongside blues dancing; it's a rhythmic, partnered dance that's full of fun and energy.

This mini-course will be an experience in connecting to another blues fan and to the musicians and music in a way you may never have done. We'll start at the beginning, so no dance experience is required, but I'll also be layering on the information, so if you have danced (blues or otherwise), I'll be giving you things to work on, as well. We'll go over blues dancing and swing dancing, so whether the bands play fast or slow, we'll keep you on your feet!
