2010 Augusta Class Description

Weeks 1 and 2
Craft & Folklore
Instrument Repair

Bob Smakula

Learn the art and science of stringed instrument repair and maintenance working with guitars, banjos, mandolins, and other fretted instruments. The class covers such areas as making nuts and saddles, refretting, doing neck re-sets, repairing cracks, adjusting intonation, retouching finishes, and more. Students are welcome—but not required—to bring damaged, warped, or broken instruments to work on. It is strongly recommended that participants be familiar with woodworking tools, such as a band saw, belt sander, and drill press. When registering, please specify Week 1 and/or Week 2.
