2008 Augusta Class Description

Week 5
Dance Week
Beginning Clogging and Flatfooting
Eileen Carson-Schatz

This class will cover the fundamental characteristics of Southern Appalachian clogging and flatfooting, taught in a slow and accessible way for beginners. After learning the easiest basic steps, the class will build from these into some fun combinations. Technique pointers will also be included, helping the student to better understand how to do the steps in a way that increases ease, good timing and good sounds from your feet, and fun.  Some of the history and culture of clogging and old-time music will also be shared, and the class will teach and encourage “freestyling,” which is the tradition of individuals just dancing for joy to the tune.
