2008 Augusta Class Description

Week 5
Dance Week
Dancing by Ear

Ann Kilkelly

In "Dancing by Ear," we use the rhythms and patterns of Swing, Latin, and Blues music to create and perform group ensemble dances. Class will include warm-up and stretches, jazz isolations and poly-rhythms in physical movement, and the creation of ensemble phrases and dances that stress "group groove" and other musical ways to shape and perform movement. Dancing by ear means hearing as well as seeing movement and allows dancers of every skill levels to find internally connected movement and improvisations. We will learn and repeat several dances over the course of the week. Jazz shoes recommended.
