This class is
geared toward players who already have a modest repertoire of
tunes and would like to (a) increase that repertoire, (b) learn to
play more rhythmically and with more "drive", (c) improve their
ability to pick up tunes by ear in jam situations, and (d) play
"with" rather than "next to" other musicians. We'll also take a
look at the mechanics of your playing and (since you'll probably
be playing banjo for a lifetime!) identify some ways to reduce
physical stresses and avoid injury. While I often play the lead
melody in my band, my banjo style is mostly all about the drive
and groove. My plan is to work on many of the tunes being taught
by the Old-time Week fiddle instructors, which should lead to lots
of common ground during the evening jams.
