Augusta’s Guitar
Week brings together a banner staff of master musicians who are
also master teachers.
Mary Flower,
Guitar Week Coordinator,
[left] has brought these luminaries together to share their skills
with guitarists of many styles. Mary will teach finger-style
playing with a focus on blues and ragtime.
Various versions of the
flat-pick schools of playing are a
mainstay of the week. Top
award-winning players,
Robin Kessinger
[right] and
Wayne
Henderson [center right],
will be teaching how to take solos on fiddle tunes and songs.
Pat Donohue
[below left],
the ever-popular Prairie Home Companion stalwart, will
share his many
finger-picking talents.
Parrish Ellis
[lower right] will
demonstrate his fingerpicking
and incredible back-up work.
He will also lead jams and teach a mini-class.
Guitar students
will work with one instructor all morning.
Please note: All Guitar
Week classes require that students have
some basic guitar skills in any style.
Intermediate and
advanced flat-picking classes require that students be able to
play some tunes at moderate speeds.
Each afternoon,
all of the guitar classes meet
together for an hour of performances, special presentations by the staff, and guest
presentations. Afterwards, students may choose from a wide variety
of afternoon workshops,
including offerings of Cajun/Creole Week.
Evenings are
filled with jamming, concerts, dances, and parties.
The week ends
on Friday afternoon with a Student Showcase, when each class
performs for the group.
