Irish/Celtic Week
celebrates its
27th year
with the very best of Irish music, craft, folklore, and dance
traditions. Irish Week has had an enormous impact on the quality
of Irish and Cape
Breton traditional music and dance in the U.S. The classes are
intense and the music sessions and singing are legendary.
Joanie Madden, Irish/Celtic Week coordinator,
has chosen extraordinary master musicians/teachers for the week.
These include:
Brendan Dolan, John Skelton, John
Doyle, Alec Finn, Johnny "Ringo" McDonagh, Michelle Bergin, Yvonne
Kane, Liz Kane, Wendy MacIsaac, Dan Milner, Robbie O'Connell, Lasairfhiona Ni Chinaola, Jerry O'Sullivan, Jim
Flanagan, Edel Fox, Martin Quinn, Donny Golden, Cara Butler, Dan
Stacey, David
James, Eileen Gannon, Kathleen Boyle, Mirella Murray, Angelina Carberry, Timmy "The Brit" McCarthy,
and
Marcus Hernon.
Some of the
finest Irish musicians of America, Ireland, and Cape Breton will be on staff.
Students choose one subject and one instructor for intensive
classes that meet both morning and afternoon. All classes
(except dance and vocals) are intended for those who can already
play their instrument to some extent and are ready to start
learning Irish or Celtic style, technique, and repertoire.
In the evenings
participants may join lively sessions or swap ballads. Less
experienced students are offered encouragement in “slow sessions”
led by the staff. Evening mini-classes carry out the week's theme.
Both the Tuesday and Thursday public concerts feature the
Irish/Celtic theme and are followed by dances
and sessions.
