This unique
event is a favorite of all who love old-time music. Scores of West
Virginia's master fiddlers, pickers, and s
ingers gather, along
with hundreds of local folks and visitors for a weekend of fun,
packed
with jam sessions throughout the weekend, informal
concerts, and renewal of friendships.
On Friday night, October 29,
the Fiddlers' Reunion kicks off with a Halloween
square dance at 8:00pm in The Pit in Hermanson
Center. (Costumes are encouraged but not required.) Caller will
be
Lou Maiuri with music provided
by the October Old-Time Week staff. Admission is $8 to the general
public; students dance free. D&E students who attend will
receive convocation credits.
On Saturday, October
30, 10:00 am
to 5:00 pm, the Fiddlers'
Reunion events center around a concert stage
in the lounge of the Hermanson Center. All day you
will enjoy the music of a series of performances by invited
old-time master fiddlers and younger old-time musicians from all
over West Virginia. A freestyle
clogging and flatfooting contest will be held on
the stage beginning at 4:00 pm. Cash prizes will be awarded. Exhibits
and sales by instrument and food vendors will be nearby. Throughout
the day, tune and song swaps
feature traditional singers from all over the region, and jam
sessions go on far into the night. Admission is free.
